Risk Assessment

Risk assessment is a term used to describe the overall process or method for Identifying hazards that have the potential to cause harm  and determining appropriate ways to eliminate the hazard, or control the risk when the hazard cannot be eliminated. Risk assessment as a tool can be used in a wide variety if situations.

Training

Providing health and safety information and training helps you to:

  • Ensure that people who work for you know how to work safely and without risks to health;
  • Develop a positive health and safety culture, where safe and healthy working.

COSHH Assessment

A COSHH assessment focuses on the hazards and risks from hazardous substances within the workplace. Health hazards are not limited to substances labelled as ‘hazardous’. Some harmful substances can be produced as a by product of a process e.g. wood dust from sanding, silica dust from tile cutting or stainless steel dust from grinding.

Work Instruction, Method Statement & SOPs

Work Instructions are documents that clearly and precisely describe the correct way to perform certain tasks that may cause inconvenience or damage if not done in the established manner. That is, describe, dictate or stipulate the steps that must be followed to correctly perform any specific activity or work.

Health & Safety Policy

The law says that every business must have a policy for managing health and safety. A health and safety policy sets out your general approach to health and safety and It explains how you, as an employer, will manage health and safety in your business. It should clearly say who does what, when and how.

If you have five or more employees, you must write your policy down. If you have fewer than five employees you do not have to write anything down, but it is useful to do so.

Accident & Incident Investigation

An effective investigation requires a methodical, structured approach to information gathering, collation and analysis. The findings of the investigation will form the basis of an action plan to prevent the accident or incident from happening again and for improving your overall management of risk.

Inspection

A workplace inspection can help identify hazards or processes that are not working efficiently, highlighting areas that require improvement before they lead to an accident or incident. Therefore, workplace inspections are an effective tool for helping to prevent incidents, injuries and illnesses.

Face Fit Testing

A face fit test is a simple test which checks whether a person’s mask fits their face shape and size. A face fit test will help ensure that the RPE selected is suitable for the wearer. Employers have a legal duty under COSHH Regulations to ensure that employees are not exposed to airborne hazards during their work. Under the PPE directive, Employers have a legal duty to ensure that any PPE provided (Including RPE) is suitable and sufficient for the individual and task being undertaken.
